Alexander Mattison on the State of the Las Vegas Raiders Backroom

Las Vegas Raiders veteran running back Alexander Mattison has joined a running backs unit that has a huge chip on its shoulder.

With All-Pro running back Josh Jacobs gone, the Raiders will be looking to find that replacement, which is a difficult task considering how valuable Jacobs was to the club throughout his five seasons with the Silver and Black.

But Las Vegas believes it has its candidate in third-year Raiders running back Zamir White, who exploded onto the scene in the final four games of the 2023 season.

Mattison doesn’t plan on sitting back, though. The sixth-year running back is competing for a big role on this team.

Mattison discussed what he’s experienced so far in the Raiders’ running backs room when he recently spoke with Marcus Hayes of Vegas Sports Today.

“There’s a lot of competition in this room,” Mattison said. “It’s going to be a great training camp. Go out there and compete, and I just want the players to understand that we’re the legs of this football team, so we’re going to practice that way, we’re going to go out and play that way on the field.”

One of the players who has caught Mattison’s attention the most so far is rookie running back Dylan Laube, who the Raiders selected in the sixth round of this year’s NFL draft.

“I think he (Laube) has a really good chance of being a part of this team as a freshman,” Mattison said. “And he’s a great addition to have in the running backs room, and I’m excited to see how he can impact this team as well.”
