Josh Jacobs Interview: Already a Leader in the Packers Locker Room

Yahoo Sports’ Jason Fitz sat down with new Packers RB Josh Jacobs to discuss why he’s already a leader in the Packers locker room, even though he’s the “new guy,” and what he’s seen from QB Jordan Love so far at minicamp. Josh joined Yahoo Sports on behalf of USAA’s “Huddle Up for Home Fire Prevention & Safety.”

Yahoo Sports’ Jason Fitz, along with NFL superstar Josh Jacobs of the Green Bay Packers, joins us on behalf of USA A.

We’ll get to that in a minute.

All right.

One of those guys you’ve seen up close and everyone talks about Jordan’s love.

You saw him.

What are your first impressions, man?

Oh man, I mean, all day long I’ve been getting questions about him and, and I, you know, I try to talk about him as much as I can.

I think he’s really going to become the next superstar quarterback in this league.

I like the way he goes about his business on a day-to-day basis, whether it’s in the locker room or in the group, the way he demands that respect and, you know, he comes in as a leader.

And you know, he’s willing to wear that, you know, that captain on his chest and he wears the team on his chest.

That being said, he also has all the capabilities to be someone truly special.

I saw him make a throw in practice where he was running to the right and he threw it about 50 yards across his body to the left side of the field.

And it seems pretty simple.

And I was like, yeah, that’s what I kind of do.

I was like, yeah, this guy, I just thought it was going to be good.

It’s incredible.

But it makes me think about leadership.

You just mentioned it.

You’re new to this locker room or you’re not new to the league, you’re kind of the senior coming into this skill position group.

So how do you find your place as a leader in the midst of all this when you’re the new guy on the team?

Um, they didn’t make it difficult at all.

Yeah, they didn’t make it difficult at all.

I mean, when I came up, you know, a lot of the young guys, they kind of looked up to me.

Uh, you know, a lot of them, you know, they already respected, you know, the things that I’ve done in this league and uh, a lot of them, man, believe it or not, they, they want to get better.

So a lot of them have a lot of questions about what to do or what to do or how to do certain things?

And I think that’s the most fun thing about coming, just being able to be around a group of guys.

There is hunger on all sides of the field.

Like the defense every time they see me, the defenders, they just start doing Duke moves and stuff, like the stuff we used to do in practice that I had a couple guys on, they’re like, yeah, man, we’re gonna be serious this year.

You have maintained the standard on the field and off the field you do a lot for the community.

Tell everyone what you are doing with the USA.

Yeah.

So today our partners were USA A and the Milwaukee Fire Department for the regrouping and for home and fire protection and safety.

And uh man, it was fun and I came here and I learned how to put out a fire, a grill that catches fire, you know, grilling in the summertime in the United States, especially in the Midwest, it’s like 10,000 cases, uh over 10,000 cases a year of fires and things like that happening.

So it’s just educating the community on how to have fun, but also be smart and protect yourself, and you know, what to do and what not to do in case of fire and grilling. That being said, they let me put the fire out.

Um, so how did you do it?

How did you do?

It was good.

I had to get the fire extinguisher and, uh, you know, put the fire out.

They told me how to walk, as if I had to go into the fire and then walk back.

Uh, because they, you’re never supposed to turn your back on the fire.

Uh, man, it was just fun.

It was a fun experience.

I liked it.

They gave me this cool helmet with my name on it.

You see, I had everything.

I had already worn it earlier.

Look at this, look at this, it’s awesome.

I’m gonna keep this, keep this forever in my man cave.

But yeah, man, it was a really fun experience, man.

I’m really happy to be here.
