Waterfront Blues Festival to offer accommodations in case of excessive heat

PORTLAND, Oregon (KOIN) — The Waterfront Blues Festival has announced it will offer accommodations to help guests cope with the excessive heat expected to hit the Portland metro area this weekend.

THE The festival runs from Thursday July 4th to Sunday July 7th.THE exact length of time the National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning.


To help people cope with the heat while enjoying world-class music on the banks of the Willamette River, organizers of the Waterfront Blues Festival said they will be offering “several accommodations” this year. They also said they are taking the safety of not only attendees, but also staff and performers “very seriously.” Guest accommodations include:

  • Several shaded and tented areas
  • Water misting cooling stations
  • Unlimited free water is available at water stations throughout the festival grounds. Factory-sealed water bottles and empty refillable bottles are permitted inside the festival grounds. Additional bottled water, reusable cups and ice will also be available on-site.
  • Fully equipped and prepared first aid tent to assist anyone experiencing signs of heat related problems.
  • NEW: Updated Umbrella Policy:The festival has adjusted its policy to ALLOW personal-sized umbrellas (up to 62 inches) for the 2024 festival. Group/patio umbrellas are still prohibited.
  • NEW: In partnership with the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront Hotel, there will be a Waterfront Blues Festival Relaxation Center Located on the second floor of the hotel. The Chill Center is air-conditioned and will be open to all festival goers from 12pm to 9pm from July 4th to 7th. As a courtesy to GA 1-Day ticket holders due to the 2024 heat, guests can request a special wristband at all exit gates to visit the Chill Center and receive a new entry to the festival. All other ticket holders already have a new entry included in their ticket.

The National Weather Service’s excessive heat warning for the Portland area begins at noon Thursday and runs through 11 p.m. Sunday night. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Rose City could see triple-digit temperatures, KOIN 6 Meteorologist Kelley Bayern forecasts.
