New Type of Boat Fuel Available Exclusively at St. Andrews Marina | WDHN

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – On Tuesday morning, members of the National Marine Manufacturers Association and Suzuki Marine USA announced the launch of a new type of marine fuel, exclusively at the St. Andrews Marina. It’s called Hyperfuel Purfuels.

“What we’re seeing today is we have a brand new high-octane ethanol fuel coming into the center. So it’s a high-performance fuel, it’s going to give more octane to the engines, but it’s also going to create a better overall experience,” said Panama City Commissioner Josh Street.

This is a first for Florida.

“I mean, we’re in a boating community where a lot of us are very much about power, how quickly we can get to the fishing spot and so every little bit of extra water that you put in your boat is a very welcome experience. So, given that this is the first of its kind offered in Florida right now, it’s only sold in Texas,” Street said.

The 93-octane ethanol-free gasoline has the potential to reduce carbon emissions from recreational boats by 30 percent compared to emissions from 10 percent ethanol fuels. Suzuki says it reduces emissions without sacrificing performance or range.

“You put engines on your boat, but it doesn’t impact range. It doesn’t impact performance. In fact, they improve the performance of many boats. It’s transparent to the consumer and they work very well. They make boats run well,” said Jeff Wasil, a member of the National Marine Manufacturers Association.

Marine gasoline is hassle-free for consumers.

“They don’t have to change anything on their fuel and they don’t have to change or upgrade any parts. They don’t have to change the engine, nothing. They just put fuel on the boat, whether it’s an old boat or a new boat, it doesn’t matter. It’s a replacement fuel and it’s a very good non-ethanol fuel,” Wasil said.

The groups’ goal is to offer hyperfuel throughout the state.
