  • Stellantis subsidiary FCA US had a terrible second quarter, with sales falling 21% from a year earlier.
  • Virtually all models saw sales declines, with a few exceptions, including the Jeep Wagoneer.
  • The company is launching a new incentive that offers up to $2,000 in cash back.

Stellantis made mistakes in America and the company continues to pay for its mistakes, with second-quarter sales down 21% from the previous year. This is a significant decline, and sales have dropped from 434,648 units in 2023 to 344,993 units this year.

That’s a difference of 89,655 units, and the picture isn’t much better when you look at year-to-date sales. In the first six months of the year, FCA US sold 677,533 vehicles. That’s down 16 percent from 802,975 units sold in the same period last year.

So what’s behind the revenue shortfall? A sales decline for virtually every model the company sells. At Jeep, Wrangler sales are down 17%, while Gladiator sales are down 24%. It doesn’t help that the Cherokee and Renegade are dead either.

Speaking of ghosts, Chrysler 300 sales fell 53% to 1,998 units in the second quarter. Dodge Charger sales fell 34% to 16,216 units, while Challenger sales fell 11% to 11,480 units. Those numbers will likely continue to decline as dealers work to clear existing inventory ahead of the all-new Charger Daytona.

Ram pickup sales fell 23% to 90,109 units, while Pacifica sales fell 16%. Durango sales fell 9%, while Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio sales also suffered.

Needless to say, the second quarter was brutal for Stellantis and things aren’t likely to improve anytime soon. That being said, there were some bright spots, as Jeep Wagoneer sales jumped 107% to 16,734 units, while the Grand Wagoneer climbed 24% to 4,005 units.

It’s hilarious that sales of the Fiat 500X are up 7% despite being as dead as a doorknob. As we reported last month, dealers were offering discounts of over $10,000, so let’s hope those 153 buyers got a good deal. Speaking of Fiat, the 500 EV is off to a slow start, with only 163 units sold in the last three months.

Finally, the Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale are still struggling. Dodge sold 4,299 units, while Alfa only sold 887.

Given the disappointing quarter, it’s no surprise that FCA US has announced a new Summer Select inventory cash bonus campaign. The incentive program kicks off today and offers “up to $2,000 cash back on many of our brands.”

In addition to announcing the incentive program, officials tried to present the terrible news in the most pleasant way possible. In particular, the company touted the fact that it makes four of the five best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicles in America. These include the Jeep Wrangler 4xe (No. 1), the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (No. 2), the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid (No. 4), and the Dodge Hornet (No. 5).
