Boston traffic stop leads to gun recovery, arrest

BOSTON — A late-night traffic stop in the Mattapan neighborhood resulted in the recovery of a firearm and the arrest of a Norwood man, the Boston Police Department reported Tuesday.

At approximately 2:43 a.m. on July 2, officers from District B-3 were patrolling near Norfolk St. and Wildwood St. when they noticed a vehicle with a malfunctioning brake light.

The stop was initiated at 1257 Blue Hill Ave, where officers made contact with the driver, identified as Trayvon Ricks, 22, and his passenger.

A subsequent investigation led to the discovery of a .40 caliber Tanfoglio handgun in a backpack inside the vehicle.

The gun was equipped with a large capacity magazine loaded with 14 rounds.

Ricks was taken into custody and faces multiple charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm without an FID card, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a large capacity feeding device and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration.

He is expected to appear in Dorchester District Court.

In addition to the firearms charges, Ricks also received a Massachusetts uniform citation for having a defective brake light and operating a vehicle with a suspended registration.
