Man arrested in shooting near Harry and Webb Road

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Wichita Police confirmed an arrest in connection with a shooting reported at an apartment complex near Harry and Webb Road on Halloween night (last Thursday).

Police identified the suspect as 55-year-old James Evans. Police said Evans went to the apartment where several people were inside. Once inside, Evans was asked to leave. He came back and knocked on the door. When the door was partially opened, police said Evans pointed a gun at the apartment and fired a single shot.

A 44-year-old man suffered injuries to his upper body, police said.

Officers arrived on scene around 9:30 p.m. and found that both the victim and suspect had left the scene. The victim was taken to hospital by a passenger car.

Police spoke with possible witnesses at the scene and confirmed that Evans and the victim knew each other.

Evans was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail for attempted homicide, aggravated battery and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
