An Elkhart man was arrested after Goshen police said he fled a traffic stop at Wilden Avenue and Kundred Road.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2.

Investigators say the driver, John Raymond Rosario-Melendez, 26, crashed into two vehicles and ended up in the 800 block of River Avenue.

He then swam across the Elkhart River and was apprehended by officers on Chicago Avenue.

After being processed by Goshen General Hospital, he was taken to the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, fleeing in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage.
