Terrifier 3 kill inspired by American Psycho was “too graphic” to be released

Although Terrifier 3 takes the gore to another level, an American Psycho-inspired death had to be changed because it was also graphic – even for Art the Clown.

That’s quite a feat given the Terrifier’s track record. The 2022 sequel had Art ruthlessly peeling off a teenage girl’s skin, tearing apart her limbs, and pouring bleach and salt into her wounds.

Art also doesn’t discriminate when it comes to his victims. He will use any weapon he can (preferably the one that will cause the most pain), and only in the opening scene of Terrifier 3 does he kill children.

Before we proceed, be warned: spoilers ahead for Terrorist 3!

While there are many incredible deaths in the third film – the big draw is the shower scene – a personal favorite comes near the end, and is probably the cruelest of the bunch.

After tying Sienna’s aunt Jess to a chair, Art takes a giant plastic tube, shoves it into her mouth, and dumps live rats in there. After they chew enough on the inside, Vicky slits Jess’s throat, causing the rats (which are still alive) to fall out of her neck.

Now, this might sound familiar to anyone who has read Bret Easton Ellis’s American Psycho – which was made into a film of the same name starring Christian Bale. And that’s because the worse The book chapter details an equally sick sequence (more on that soon).

Dexerto spoke with Terrifier 3 director Damien Leone, who revealed that the scene was actually inspired by the excerpt from the book.

“That’s where it came from,” he told us. “My friend and I were obsessed with that movie when it came out on pay-per-view, before it even became popular.”

Leone went on to say that his friend was so obsessed with it that he went and read the book American Psycho. “And he relayed all those little snippets to me. He’s like, ‘Man, let me tell you, this book is nothing like the movie… the book is absolutely insane… you don’t know how graphic it is.’

“He told me that scene, and it blew me away, and it stuck in my head forever.” Even though he inspired the death of Terrifier 3, Leone had to make some adjustments.

“It’s a very sexual, explicit and gratuitous scene in the book that I would never do in the film, but I thought the idea of what he does was so disturbing with the rats in the tube that I could do it in a less provocative way. path. A less sexual way.

“We wanted that scene to be a lot more graphic in the film, but it became more subtle… well, I guess, a little more subtle. Faster cuts. We didn’t dwell on it too long. Compared to other scenes in this film, it’s a lot less is more – just the idea of what’s happening is disturbing.”

So, with all that said, you might be interested in finding out more about the American Psycho passage in question.

We’ve included a section below omitting the preparation as it’s really quite dark. Even so, be warned: many will find this content disturbing.

For context, at this stage in the story, killer Patrick Bateman has a woman tied to the floor – her hands are full of nails and she has Brie cheese spread between her legs.

Bateman has already drilled out her teeth and tortured her in various ways, after which he uses acid to force a tube inside her. Here’s what happens next:

“The mouse throws itself against the glass cage as I move it from the kitchen to the living room. He refused to eat what was left of the other mouse I bought for him to play with last week and which is now dead, rotting in the corner of the cage. (For the last five days I have purposely starved him.)

The movie American Psycho is nothing compared to the book

“I placed the glass cage next to the girl and perhaps because of the smell of the cheese the mouse seems to go crazy, first running in circles, meowing, then trying to throw the body, weak from hunger, to the side of the cage.”

Much like the sequence in Terrifier 3, the rat disappears into the tube to feast on the victim’s insides – only it ends up somewhere much worse than the throat. The excerpt from the book ends: “The noises the girl makes are, for the most part, incomprehensible.”

Terrifier 3 is now in theaters. You can also find out why Leone will never reveal Art’s entire story, how old you have to be to watch Terrifier 3, and how to watch the Terrifier films in order.
