Police-involved shooting in Orillia, Ont., leaves one dead, officer seriously injured, SIU investigating

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating a police-involved shooting in Orillia, Ontario, that left one person dead and one officer seriously injured.

The shooting happened on Cochrane Street shortly before 2pm on Thursday

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Central Region said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that the Orillia detachment is “actively involved” in an investigation.

The OPP urged motorists and pedestrians to avoid the areas of West Street S. at Cochrane Street and Matchedash Street S. at Cochrane Street in Orillia.
