21-year-old dead, three injured in yet another car accident in Pune

A 21-year-old man was killed and three others injured on Friday morning in Mundhwa, Pune, when a speeding Audi car rammed into two two-wheelers. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Ayush Pradip Tayal, was arrested on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, according to news agency ANI.

The victim, Rauf Akbar Shaikh, was working as a food delivery partner at the time of the accident. Tayal, a Hadapsar resident who runs a family business in Ranjangaon, is currently under investigation.

A senior police officer mentioned that Tayal’s blood samples were taken to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol during the accident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police R. Raja, speaking to ANI, provided details about the incident. He said Tayal was driving from ABC Road towards Tadi Gutta Chowk when he hit a two-wheeler carrying three people at around 1.30am.

Shortly afterwards, Tayal’s Audi hit Shaikh’s motorcycle from behind, causing serious injuries. Shaikh was rushed to a private hospital in Hadapsar where he succumbed to his injuries.

After the incident, Tayal tried to flee the scene. With the help of CCTV footage from the accident site, police traced the license plate number, leading to Tayal’s arrest at his residence in Hadapsar.

A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him at Mundhwa police station, citing various sections – 105, 281, 125(a), 132, 119.1 77, 184 – of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The incident comes months after a 17-year-old boy, under the influence of alcohol, crashed his Porsche into a motorcycle. 24-year-old Anish Awadhiya and his friend Ashwini Koshta died in the accident.
