“Silent Triumph: Empowering the Deaf in Eritrea”

“Silent Triumph: Empowering the Deaf in Eritrea”

#Empowering the Hearing Impaired

In 2020, the European Union undertook a remarkable project in Eritrea, empowering the deaf community through a transformative two-year project. Its mission: to provide vocational training and promote self-employment opportunities for people with hearing loss.

More than 200 deaf men, women and children have become the proud beneficiaries of this initiative. Through this project, they have received comprehensive training in various vocational skills, ranging from handicrafts to drawing, painting, embroidery and sewing.

The project also recognises the potential of hearing impaired children in the arts. By encouraging their artistic talents, these young people have the opportunity to grow and develop their skills, enabling them to earn a living and support themselves independently.

At the end of the program, beneficiaries leave with valuable tools, such as sewing machines, to start their own businesses. These machines are a symbol of empowerment, as they allow deaf people to earn a living from the comfort of their own homes.

Today, these once marginalized members of society have become self-made entrepreneurs, breaking barriers and exceeding expectations. Their skills and determination have not only transformed their own lives, but have also inspired others in the community.

Thanks to the European Union’s unwavering support, Eritrea’s deaf community can look forward to a brighter future. Through vocational training and self-employment, these remarkable individuals have found their voice and unleashed their true potential.

This is a story of resilience, empowerment and the transformative power of opportunity. The European Union’s commitment to inclusion and support has forever changed the lives of deaf people in Eritrea, providing them with an education and paving the way for a future filled with hope and endless possibilities.
