6-year-old girl hopes to fill hospital room with toys

A six-year-old girl has made it her mission to fill a room at St. Francis Hospital with toys to comfort children.

Her mission began with tragedy, but now she inspires other families to give back.

Brindle may be six years old, but she already sees the value in helping other children. That’s why she wants to fill the playroom at a local hospital, but she can’t do it alone.

Hundreds of toys already pile up in a Sapulpa house, but none are for Brindle.

Brindle’s mother, Andrea, said she and her family started giving back a few years ago after a friend lost her son Steven to brain cancer at age eight.

“We started in 2020 by helping raise money with the Children’s Miracle Network. Our friend lost her son in 2020 to childhood cancer, so we started raising money for her store goal,” said Andrea Meador.

The fundraiser continued over the next few years, with lemonade stands, silent auctions and more. This year, a new goal was set after Andrea’s baby died prematurely.

“We lost our son last year,” Andrea said. “He was born at 23 weeks and we were at St. Francis. They took great care of us.”

Brindle asked her mother if they could ask for donations of toys to fill the hospital ward.

It’s in honor of baby Barrett and Steven, both of whom fought a long battle.

“He battled cancer for 884 days,” Andrea said. “They were in and out of hospitals, and their favorite thing was the game room.”

The hope is that children can find happiness, in a dark time.

“We hope we can bring some joy to the tragedy they are going through,” Andrea said.

Andrea said she hopes to see the room full when the donation drive is over.

“She is so caring and loving. I am so proud of her.”

The goal is to collect 1,000 toys and they will be delivered to the hospital in mid-July.
