Hatch Baby Recalls Power Adapters Due to Electrocution Hazard

Hatch Baby Inc. has issued a recall for power adapters sold with Rest 1st Generation sound machines due to a potential electrical shock hazard. The plastic casing surrounding the power adapter can come loose when removed from the electrical outlet, exposing the power prongs and posing a shock hazard to consumers.

The recall follows 19 reported incidents of the adapter’s plastic casing detaching, including two cases where consumers suffered minor electrical shocks. These adapters were sold between January 2019 and September 2022 online at Hatch.co and Amazon.com as well as in brick-and-mortar stores such as buybuy Baby, Target, Walmart, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn Kids and Best Buy. Prices ranged from $60 to $70 when bundled with select Rest 1st Generation sound machines, and up to $200 on Amazon.com through May 2024.

The recall, announced on July 3, 2024, affects approximately 919,400 units in the United States and an additional 44,352 units sold in Canada. The affected adapters, which have the model number CYAP05 050100U, have a rectangular white plastic housing and were not sold separately. Key identifiers printed in black near the pins include the model number, “1.0A,” “Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. LTD,” and “Made in China.”

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled adapters and contact Hatch Baby for a free replacement. To facilitate the replacement process, users should unplug the cord, cut the cord from the recalled adapter, take a photo showing the model number and the cut cord, and upload the photo along with their name and mailing address to www.hatch.co/adapterrecall. Hatch Baby is proactively contacting all registered owners directly.
