If/when Missouri’s gambling amendment passes, the Chiefs win

If/when Missouri’s gambling amendment is officially declared the winner, the Chiefs will win too.

Via Ben Fischer from Sports business magazinesaid Chiefs president Mark Donovan that the legalization of gambling in Missouri escalators activate in the team’s deals with BetMgM and DraftKings. The development also allows the Chiefs to add a third gambling sponsor.

The existing contracts were signed after Kansas legalized sports betting.

Donovan did not reveal the number of escalators. Which probably means they’re not unimportant.

Or maybe Donovan doesn’t want to count the Chiefs’ chickens until they’re officially hatched. Although Fischer’s article assumes that legalized sports betting in Missouri is a foregone conclusion, multiple reports indicate that the race is 50.1 to 49.9 percent still too close to call – and that a recount will take place if requested.

If the measure ultimately prevails, it will (somewhat) offset April’s failed vote on public funding for a new Royals stadium and a renovated Arrowhead Stadium. And perhaps the new money coming from legalized sports betting in Missouri will provide a package that keeps the Chiefs from crossing the border into Kansas when their lease expires.
