Warriors News: Klay Thompson Breaks Silence After Leaving Golden State

Klay Thompson is officially embarking on a new journey.

The five-time All-Star has agreed to a three-year, $50 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks that could become official as early as this weekend.

While there have been reactions from longtime teammates Draymond Green and Stephen Curry, and even Thompson’s father, on the matter, Klay has yet to say anything.

Thompson took to his Instagram to post a heartfelt message to the Golden State organization and fans.

“Oh Bay Area, there are not enough words and pictures to express how I truly feel for you all,” Thompson wrote. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the best times of my life. It was such an honor to wear that Dubs jersey from day one. I truly wanted to be the best I could be and help bring as many championships as possible to the area. But the best part isn’t the rings, it’s the friendships I’ve made that will last a lifetime. My family and I want to thank all the amazing people who work tirelessly to make the Warriors organization a world class organization. Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened. Until we meet again. Captain of the Sea, #foureverchamps #splashbros4life #oaklandforever”

Thompson leaves Golden State as a four-time champion. He was a member of one of the greatest Big Threes of all time alongside Curry and Green, and one of the most dominant teams of all time alongside Curry, Green and Kevin Durant.

Thompson’s legacy will forever be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever wear a Warriors jersey and one of the greatest shooters to ever play in the history of basketball.

Thompson finished his Warriors career averaging 19.6 points on 45.3 percent shooting, 41.3 percent from deep and 85.8 percent from the free throw line in 793 games. In addition to being a five-time All-Star, he was a two-time All-NBA selection and a member of the 2018-19 All-Defensive Second Team.

Thompson will now continue his NBA career in Dallas, where he will look to help the team return to the NBA Finals. The Mavericks lost in five games to the Boston Celtics in last month’s Finals.

As for his time with the Warriors, he will forever be immortalized in Golden State history as the team announced that they would retire his No. 11 jersey after his retirement.
