Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs remains mum on meeting with Biden despite calls for ‘unity’

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs has publicly supported President Biden in the past, but she chose to remain silent after attending his Wednesday night meeting with Democratic governors — as a source told The Post that party officials are being urged to maintain a united front.

“Everyone is on the same page until they’re told not to be,” the source said, adding that “there’s a lot of discussion going on” about the future of the 81-year-old president’s re-election campaign.

Unlike some of his fellow governors, Hobbs has not made any public statements in support of Biden since the meeting, when the president reportedly told state leaders he would prioritize sleeping more, working less and avoiding events that take place after 8 p.m. in an effort to improve his alertness.

Reached by the Post on Friday, Hobbs spokesman Christian Slater said “we have nothing to add” about the rally.

Meanwhile, the source told the Post that the Biden campaign is taking a “top-down” approach to keeping state party activists and elected officials in line.

One Arizona Democrat who has stepped out of line is Rep. Raul Grijalva, 76, who publicly pleaded with the president to drop out of the race in an interview with The New York Times on Wednesday.

Grijalva has been criticized for his position by some party pillars.

“I find it ironic that elected Democrats are calling for Biden to step down and allow someone else to run when they are not,” state Rep. Alma Hernandez tweeted after Grijalva’s interview. “Some have been sick and unable to show up for work for some time now and have refused to step down or have been there for 20+ years and have nothing to show for it but want to fuel MAGA rhetoric. Yeah, no thanks. I support my president and will do everything I can to make sure Arizona voters show up for him. I reject Rep. Raul Grijalva’s ridiculous calls.”

On Friday night, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero expressed confidence in the president after speaking with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos.

“No one is more qualified or better prepared than Biden to defeat Trump in November and lead our country into the future,” Romero tweeted. “I am proud to stand with our President.”
