Chief Minister Stalin reacts to BSP leader Armstrong’s murder

Reacting to the statement by Tamil Nadu Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) member K Armstrong, Chief Minister MK Stalin said he had ordered a speedy probe into the matter. Expressing “deep shock and sadness” over the killing, the Chief Minister added that eight people were killed in the night.

“I have asked the police authorities to quickly conclude the investigation and bring the culprits to justice,” Stalin also said, adding: “I extend my condolences to his (Armstrong’s) party cadres, his family, friends and relatives.”

Armstrong was assassinated on the evening of July 5. Around 7:30 pm, unknown assailants attacked the BSP leader outside his home in Perambur, Chennai. Armstrong was assaulted with knives and rushed to Apollo Hospital on Greams Road, where he was declared dead on arrival.

According to the police, Armstrong was killed in connection with the 2023 murder of history journalist A+ Arcot Suresh. The Tamil Nadu BSP, however, has denied any connection between Armstrong and Suresh and is demanding that the CBI take over the case. Besides, they have also demanded the resignation of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Shankar Jiwal.
