3 New Brunches Offered at Des Moines Farmers Market

The Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market offers a variety of breakfast options served in tents along Court Avenue from Water to Fifth Street. Hungry shoppers can grab Venezuelan arepas at Arepa DSM, kolaches and boudin at Cajun Belle, traditional Chinese dumplings at Dumpling House, Asian waffles at Lucky Birdie and homemade Pakistani dishes at Lyela’s Kitchen. It’s a veritable cornucopia of flavors from around the world waiting for you.

But if you’d rather sit back and people-watch and brunch, the farmers market runs every Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon through the end of September, and then from 8 a.m. to noon in October. These restaurants and bars have launched a new Saturday brunch offering.

Stuffed olives

Stop by Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for brunch options at the restaurant, which moved 200 steps from its original location at 216 Court Ave. in Des Moines earlier this year.

The tapas and martini specialist offers dishes such as a Scotch egg, a soft-boiled egg wrapped in bacon and served on crispy sweet potatoes; a bagel-like smoked salmon flatbread with smoked salmon; biscuits and gravy; and huevos rancheros.

Clever options include a breakfast lasagna with a poached egg and creamy lemon sauce and a banh mi breakfast sandwich with a fried egg and homemade sausage on a pretzel croissant. The crepes even come topped with orange Dreamsicle, s’mores or bananas Foster.

The restaurant also offers a menu of new breakfast martinis in flavors such as Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Blueberry Cobbler and Bloody Mary.

Bonus: a terrace in front of the restaurant has just opened.

This Saturday, it’s Lachele’s Fine Foods and its food truck.

On July 20, discover Waffles & Whip.
