The Novato Elder scammer has been sentenced to prison

A Placer County man arrested in an elderly theft investigation in Novato has been sentenced to 60 days in jail, according to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.

Volodymyr Pipskyy, 41, of Roseville was arrested in February on charges that he committed a telephone scam against an 88-year-old resident. The victim was persuaded to withdraw $50,000 “to fix a fake ‘data breach,’” according to Novato police.

The victim’s supporters contacted police, who placed the victim’s home under surveillance and arrested Pipskyy when he arrived to collect money, the department said.

The prosecutor charged Pipskyy with grand theft and conspiracy. He accepted a plea deal and admitted the conspiracy charge in September. No one else has been charged in the case.

Pipskyy surrendered to the Marin County Jail on Nov. 1 to begin serving the sentence.
