78-year-old man shot during road rage incident in Akron

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – A 39-year-old man was arrested Thursday afternoon after a roadside shooting in Akron

Officers responded to the area of ​​East Market and South Arlington Streets for a shooting around 4:15 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a 78-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say the victim was taken to nearby Summa Health Akron City Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Based on initial information, a minor two-vehicle crash occurred on East Market Street. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound when the victim’s vehicle sideswiped the other vehicle involved, causing minor damage. After the collision, the driver of the other car, a 39-year-old man, fired several shots, hitting the victim once. After the shooting, the suspect left the scene.

Minutes later, officers were told the shooter was at a home in the 700 block of Ravenswood Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and arrested the suspect without incident. He was then taken to the police station for questioning.

The suspect was identified as Jon Jenkins, who was charged with assault and transported to the Summit County Jail where he was booked.

At least one gun was recovered.
