Mike Tyson’s Former Trainer Teddy Atlas Gives Verdict on ‘Dangerous’ Jake Paul Fight: ‘He Can Stop Him’

Mike Tyson’s Former Trainer Teddy Atlas Gives Verdict on ‘Dangerous’ Jake Paul Fight: ‘He Can Stop Him’

Mike Tyson will return to the ring for a professional fight for the first time since 2005.

The man in the opposite corner is brash YouTuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul, who put aside his traditional sports campaign focus for this spectacle fight, streamed live by Netflix.

The boxing community reacted negatively due to the 30-year age gap between the two, even though Tyson’s accomplishments in the ring eclipse anything Paul has been able to match.

Teddy Atlas, who helped train the young Tyson with Cus D’Amato for a time, said on his podcast that the danger posed by the 57-year-old is still very much present.

“You better realize that, knowing Tyson like I do, the power doesn’t go away when you get older. He’s still got the speed, the combinations. He’s still got that style that he was taught to make you miss and create openings for that power. He’s still got that, the one who can zigzag, slide, create openings to unload a bomb on your chin and get you out of there.”

Atlas believes the fight – which will be fought over eight two-minute rounds – is very dangerous for Paul if there is no prior agreement or “compliments”.

“No deal, no bullshit, this is a dangerous and risky fight for Paul. I give him credit. Especially early on. Tyson is coming and if you have a deal with him, ha, good luck. Because I know Tyson. When the bell rings, he might have a short memory about any deal other than getting his hand on your chin.”

After a delay due to Tyson’s ulcer flare-up, the two men will face off on November 15.
