Miltech Simulations Announces Aerial Refueling Pro for MSFS

Exciting news for military aircraft simulators in Microsoft Flight Simulator! Miltech Simulations, who already introduced us to the CH-47 Chinook, the Supercarrier Pro or the V-22 Osprey, recently announced a new and very interesting project for MSFS: In-flight refueling ProScheduled for release this summer, the tool is expected to bring the complex and difficult process of in-flight refueling into Microsoft Flight Simulator on PC and Xbox.

In-flight refueling is considered one of the most demanding maneuvers in aviation. Transferring fuel from one aircraft (the tanker) to another (the receiver) in flight has become crucial in modern air warfare, but it is also a grueling procedure that puts everyone involved on edge and demands maximum concentration on the task at hand.

Miltech Simulations has taken on this challenge, with the goal of delivering a realistic and immersive aerial refueling experience for MSFS players. Here’s a detailed look at what Aerial Refueling Pro is set to offer:

  1. Various models and methods of oil tankers
  • Tanks included:You will find several tanker models in the add-on, including the KC135, KC130 and A330MRTT.
  • Refueling methods:Both Flying Boom and Probe-and-Drogue refueling methods are supported, adapting to different aircraft types and refueling techniques.
  1. Flexible refueling operations
  • Users can request a tanker to appear at a predefined distance and altitude from their aircraft during any flight.
  • The tanker planes are piloted by AI, focusing on the receiver’s perspective. This means that the tanker planes will not be able to fly but will navigate autonomously to facilitate the refueling process.
  1. Extended Compatibility and Realism
  • Aerial Refueling Pro is compatible with over 30 third-party aircraft, including those from renowned developers such as DC Designs, CJ Simulations, and IndiaFoxtEcho. A full list of compatible aircraft will be announced prior to release.
  • The add-on includes realistic sounds and communications from the refueling operator.
  • Refueling schedules and capacities are adjusted according to aircraft type.
  1. Platform and Multiplayer Compatibility
  • The add-on will be compatible with MSFS 2020 and 2024 on PC and Xbox.
  • While the primary focus is on solo flights, there is potential for multiplayer functionality where one user pilots the tanker and the others act as receivers. However, due to the complexity of AI aircraft in multiplayer environments, this feature is still under consideration.
  1. Customization and liveries
  • Aerial Refueling Pro will include international liveries, featuring designs from various air forces such as the RAF and other military organisations.
  • The final list of tanker models may expand depending on user requests and popular demand.

Overall, Aerial Refueling Pro looks like a unique add-on that will add something essential to military aviation and, therefore, a realistic simulation of what real-world pilots do. Stay tuned for more details soon!
