Students block Shahbagh, demand cancellation of quotas

Dhaka University students have taken up positions at Shahbagh intersection for the fourth consecutive day, demanding the cancellation of the quota system and the reinstatement of the 2018 circular. Traffic is disrupted in and around Shahbagh.

The protesters began gathering in front of DU University Central Library under different banners from each hall of the university from around 3pm on Saturday.

They then took out a huge procession which passed through VC Chattar-TSC-Bakshi Bazar-BUET-Eden College-Home Economics-Nilkhet-TSC and stopped at Shahbagh intersection at 5 pm.

The students chanted several slogans including “Blockade, blockade, blockade Shahbagh”, “Dofa Ek Dabi Ek, Quota Not Comeback”, “Principle of Constitution/Liberation War, Equal Opportunity”.

The protests began recently in response to the High Court’s latest decision to reinstate the quota system in government jobs.
