Nigel Farage arrives in South Essex to meet new Reform MP for South Basildon

NIGEL Farage has arrived in Corringham to watch the first football club match with the new Reform MP for South Basildon.

The Reform leader is in Corringham today to meet the new Reform MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, James McMurdock.

McMurdock won the Reform Party’s fifth seat after a lengthy recount that lasted an entire day.

Mr Farage was greeted by Mr McMurdock and East Thurrock Community Football Club chairman Jack Duffin as he arrived in Corringham this afternoon.

The reformist leader posed for photos with locals at the Wyldecrest Sports Country Club bar and drank a pint of Doom Bar while chatting with Mr McMurdock and other football fans.

A line of people of all ages formed to take his picture in the bar.

Mr Farage met a boy who asked him to say “Brexit means Brexit” so he could record it on a phone, which the Reform leader did.

James McMurdock won the South Basildon and East Thurrock seat from the Conservatives with 12,178 votes, winning a majority by just 98 votes over Labour candidate Jack Ferguson.

Stephanie Metcalfe, who had been the Conservative MP for the constituency for 14 years, saw his majority shrink, winning 10,159 votes. In the 2019 election, he retained his seat with a majority of 19,922 votes.
