John Cena Announces WWE In-Ring Retirement

TORONTO (WXIX) — Wrestling icon and actor John Cena stunned fans at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena with a surprising announcement Saturday night.

After being introduced to fans by Canadian professional wrestler Trish Stratus at Money in the Bank 2024, Cena announced his retirement from World Wrestling Entertainment.

“Tonight, I officially announced my retirement from WWE,” Cena announced, drawing mixed reactions from the audience.

“Elimination Chamber 2025 will be my last, and I’m here tonight to announce that in Las Vegas, WrestleMania 2025 will be the last WrestleMania I will ever compete in,” Cena said.

In a heartfelt speech, he acknowledged the “waves of prosperity” he has seen during the two decades he has been part of the WWE franchise.

He also spoke about the ups and downs of his career and the dedication of his Canadian fans.

“WWE is the hottest in town, hands down! And I’ve also seen some extremely tough situations, like when no one knows your name, no one wants to be your friend, and only the most dedicated, hardcore fans are on your side. So, over the years, one of the biggest and most impressive things I’ve learned is that whether WWE is hot or cold, Canadian fans are always there!” Cena said, receiving thunderous applause.

Cena said he would kick off a press conference after MITB.

He took a moment to thank the packed arena, which in turn chanted, “Thank you, Cena!”

According to his Cagematch statistics, the wrestler has won 1805 of his 2296 matches.
