Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad police probe results in cancellation of 42 fake passports of Bangladeshi citizens, arrest of 23 people

Pimpri-Chinchwad, July 7, 2024: In a major crackdown on illegal immigration, the Indian government has cancelled 42 passports issued on the basis of forged documents, following successful follow-up action by the Pimpri-Chinchwad police. So far, 23 persons involved in this illegal activity have been arrested.

The Anti-Terrorism Branch of Pimpri-Chinchwad police, acting on a confidential information, apprehended five Bangladeshis illegally residing in Sainathnagar in Nigdi. During interrogation, the suspects revealed the involvement of an agent who was facilitating the issuance of passports using fake documents. Further investigation revealed that a total of 42 passports were issued to Bangladeshi nationals using fake documents.

Assistant Inspector Ambarish Deshmukh of Nigdi police station formally requested the Regional Passport Office in Pune to cancel these passports. After verification, the Regional Passport Office issued orders to cancel 42 Indian passports on July 2.

This achievement was achieved under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Deputy Commissioner Vasant Pardeshi, DCPs Sandeep Doifode, Swapna Gore and Dr Shivaji Pawar with notable efforts of Police Inspector Nitin Landge of Anti-Terrorism Branch and Assistant Inspector Ambarish Deshmukh.

In addition to the 42 cancelled passports, the Pimpri-Chinchwad anti-terrorist wing has found that around 65 Bangladeshis had obtained Indian passports through fake documents. Necessary procedures are underway to cancel the remaining passports.

Police arrested 23 intruders involved in the case, with details of the arrests as follows:

– Bhosari MIDC: 9

– Nigdi: 5

– Bhosari: 5

– Bhosari MIDC: 4

The investigation is ongoing and authorities are continuing their efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in this illegal operation.
