Josh Jacobs explains his message to Raiders’ Davante Adams after signing with Packers

The Green Bay Packers have the youngest roster in the NFL. They have plenty of talent on both ends of the ball, but could use some veteran additions to their roster. Green Bay got a veteran in free agency by signing Josh Jacobs from the Las Vegas Raiders. It appears that Josh Jacobs has been trying to bring another veteran with him to the Packers from Las Vegas.

When Josh Jacobs signed with the Green Bay Packers earlier this offseason, one of the first people to talk about it was Davante Adams. He texted Adams, who he was teammates with in Las Vegas, an eyeball emoji. He asked Adams if he planned to follow him to Green Bay.

At the time, there were a lot of rumors about Davante Adams, so it seemed like a trick question—or at least something Jacobs was seriously proposing to Adams. However, Jacobs insists that it was all just for fun.

“Davante and I, you have to understand the relationship we have,” Jacobs said on NFL Network’s The Insiders. “We joke around a lot. We talk about certain things. Basically, when I gave him looks, it was more about how crazy life is. He’s leaving there and going to the Raiders, and I’m going there. That’s exactly what we were talking about.”

Regardless, the Packers are thrilled to have Jacobs. He’s also taken a liking to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Jacobs apparently enjoys the different pace of life and the ability to focus solely on football.

“It’s so quiet, it’s peaceful,” Jacobs said. “Every time I think about (Green Bay), I just think about football; I think about committing, I think about perfecting my craft. Hopefully everything I’ve done this year and I’ve done in the offseason will pay off.”

Josh Jacobs has never been one to make big statements. However, the Green Bay Packers have gotten Jacobs excited about football like he never was before.

“I don’t normally set goals,” Jacobs said on The Insiders. “I take it day by day, and the results will be what you see. That’s going to be the goal.”

Now that Jacobs is on his second contract, he’s starting to think about his legacy. That’s led him to think more and more about winning a Super Bowl in Green Bay.

“As I get older and play longer, I have a real goal: to leave a legacy,” Jacobs said. “That’s a big goal. I want to play in big games, make the playoffs and make a long run, and be in that game, if we can make it. That’s a big thing for me. I think that’s the most important thing.”

Jacobs is 26 and entering uncharted territory. He has only played for the Raiders in the NFL and is embarking on a new offensive scheme. It’s a unique challenge, but one that Jacobs seems to be relishing.

“I’m one of the oldest guys on the team, and I don’t take that lightly,” Jacobs said. “I see these young guys, especially the young receivers, on the cusp of becoming a player in this league, and being a face and a fixture at home. I’m on the cusp of mentoring them and teaching them little things about what I do or what I see, to help them elevate their game to the next level. I think that’s part of the reason they hired me.”
