Supreme Court to hear petitions related to NEET UG exam on Monday – INDIA – GENERAL

NEW DELHI: A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will hear petitions related to the NEET UG exam on Monday as the Supreme Court opens after summer recess.

With the future of 240,000 students at stake, the court’s decision will be decisive in deciding whether to cancel the exam, stop counselling and irregularities in grace marks. The court’s questions to the National Testing Agency and the Education Ministry are also important. The NTA has submitted an affidavit that only the centres in Patna in Bihar and Godhra in Gujarat had allegedly leaked exam questions. The agency has also asked not to cancel the exam. The central government’s stand is that there is no evidence of major irregularities. The Education Ministry’s affidavit also stressed that a re-examination was not rational.

Twelve Malayali students have also filed petitions. They have also pointed out that the hardships they have been facing due to the unfairness of examinations and re-examinations would constitute a violation of their fundamental rights.

Other cases

Petitions were also filed on the constitutionality of the three new penal laws and the Citizenship Amendment Act, the Hathras disaster and the bridge collapse in Bihar. The Bihar government has also filed a petition against the Patna High Court order quashing the retrospective reservation of 50-65 per cent. A reconstituted five-member Constitution Bench will hear review petitions against the dismissal of the plea seeking legalisation of same-sex marriage on Wednesday.

A verdict is likely to be delivered soon on the legality of granting reservation to Scheduled Castes. The verdict is expected to come following Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition against the ED’s arrest and petitions related to restoration of minority status of Aligarh University in Uttar Pradesh.
