David Muir breaks social media silence after ABC News hiatus to share new update

David Muir enjoys a rare moment of rest from work, take a few days off from the busy schedule that comes with being the host of several ABC News shows..

The 50-year-old journalist is the main presenter of the prime-time news show World News Tonightplus the network 20/20 with Deborah Roberts, and is also their breaking news anchor.

However, over the past week it seems David has been making the most of the summer months with a well-deserved holiday.with GMA Weekends co-presenter and World News Tonight weekend anchor Whit Johnson takes his place.

David has, however, stayed away from social media during his vacation, finally ending his month-long absence with a photo earlier this week to mark July 4, spent with his faithful friend Axel, his dog.

He shared a photo of himself and Axel both lounging on striped beach chairs, presumably at their lake house in upstate New York, judging by David’s t-shirt, which read “Ithaca is GORGES.”

The host paired his casual tee with a blue baseball cap and simply captioned his photo: “Happy 4th of July!”, quickly earning a few fitting emojis in response from his close friend Kelly Ripa.

Fans responded with comments such as, “To the most gorgeous man anchoring the evening news,” and, “Happy 4th of July to you! We missed you this week at my house, but I said out loud, ‘I hope David is having a great week off, he deserves it,'” as well as, “Happy 4th of July to you! My goodness, I missed your reporting last week, but I’m glad you’re getting some rest.”

The TV star purchased her home on Skaneateles Lake, New York, for a whopping $7 million, according to documents filed with the Onondaga County Clerk’s Office in 2019.

Built in 1890, the 4,300-square-foot property features six bedrooms, two kitchens, three bathrooms and a stunning fireplace, providing plenty of space for David and Axel.

David generally keeps his private life out of the spotlight, but will share with Axel glimpses of his upstate lakeside life, involving lots of restoration of their estate, boat rides on calm waters, swimming and time with David’s family, who all live nearby.

In a 2020 appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan (as he was then known) with Kelly and Ryan Seacrest, David couldn’t help but gush about having Axel in his life and recalled how much support his dog had provided him during the first wave of the pandemic that year.

“I really think pets are like unsung heroes because they always want to chase birds,” he noted, adding that they provided an easy distraction during national lockdowns.

“This particular dog is a bird dog, a squirrel dog, a frog dog. If you find a frog in the pool, he can sit there for three hours and watch it. But don’t you think they helped us during that time?”
