Liam Scales has called on Celtic to do everything they can to re-sign Adam Idah on a permanent deal.

Football Scotland Norwich City announced last night that they had rejected a bid of around £4million for the Scottish Cup-winning hero. New Canaries boss Johannes Hoff Thorup is keen to work with the 23-year-old and is reluctant to let him leave. But Brendan Rodgers has made it clear to the Parkhead board that he sees Idah as a crucial part of his plans this season as negotiations continue.

Scales is a close friend of Idah and played alongside the striker during the summer with the Republic of Ireland. And the defender insists Idah’s return to the Scottish champions would be very welcome in the Hoops dressing room, where he was a hugely popular figure.

Scales said today: “We’d love to have him back. He’s a great lad. He’s obviously a brilliant player, but to have him in the dressing room is great as well. He’s a good lad, he’s funny and we all get on well with him. We’d love to have him back.”

“He’s been huge for us. He’s scored huge goals and put in huge performances. We’d love to have him back but obviously it’s out of our control. Hopefully it will happen.”

Scales believes Idah offers a different option to Kyogo, adding: “He’s obviously very different to Kyogo. Kyogo is an incredible, brilliant player, but Adam has more physicality.

“Kyogo is better playing on people’s shoulders and has scored a lot of goals doing that, but Adam gives you that sort of option where you can hit his feet and he can contain the big Scottish defenders he plays against.

“It’s a great way for centre-backs like myself, or central midfielders, to be able to play with him and then get the creative players to play off of him as well. That’s probably one of his strengths, along with the goals he scores.”
