‘Stop electing stupid people’: Anger mounts after Marjorie Taylor Greene fails US history test

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is in hot water for correctly naming two out of eight people when she listed the people who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Greene, who earlier in the day was hit with a wave of criticism for falsely claiming that Donald Trump won her home state of Georgia in 2020, recently published an article about the ages of those who signed the Declaration of Independence.

“The average age of the signers of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, was 44, but more than a dozen were 35 or younger: Thomas Jefferson: 33, John Hancock: 39, James Madison: 25, Alexander Hamilton: 21, James Monroe: 18, Aaron Burr: 20, Paul Revere: 41, George Washington: 44,” the lawmaker wrote.

Greene faced fact-checking from social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

“James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, James Monroe, Aaron Burr, Paul Revere and George Washington were not signers of the Declaration of Independence,” it reads.

Users of the site also stepped in to correct the representative.

@JoJoFromJerzwrote, “Okay, who else does Marge think signed the Declaration of Independence? Best answer wins a free peach bowl. Go for it!”

Travis Akers wrote: “6 of these 8 men did not sign the Declaration of Independence.”

@lisa_liberal replied saying: “Ladies and gentlemen, please remember that Marjorie Taylor Greene is a United States Congresswoman whose salary is paid by taxpayers.

She then added: “STOP ELECTING STUPID PEOPLE” . “

@MamaSissieSays, reportedly a retired government school teacher, said: “Marjorie Taylor Greene has history completely wrong (AGAIN)… Claiming that the average age of the signers of the Declaration of Independence was 44 is NOT an exaggeration when the life expectancy of the Founders was only 64.”
