Mumbai rains: Central Railways cancels 5 trains due to heavy rains; services on Kalyan, Kasara lines restored

Heavy rains in Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai led to cancellation of around five trains due to flooding at several stations in the division, the Central Railways said on Monday morning. Several trains were also diverted or rescheduled.

Here are the details as mentioned by the railway board:

Short departure trains

1) 20706 (CSMT-J) JCO 08/07/2024 COURT ORIGIN EX. KALYAN SCH DEP AT 14:17 HRS. 07/08/2024

Short distance trains

1) 20705 (J – CAMT) JCO will short circuit at KYN.

The following trains have been rescheduled:

1) 12167 RE-RE/SCH AT 15:00

2) 12141 RE-RE/SCH AT 12:00

3) 12165 RE/SCH AT 2:00 PM

4) 15017 RE/SCH AT 11:00

5) 12171 RE/SCH AT 13:00

6) 14313 RE/SCH AT 16:00

Rainwater flooded the railway tracks, causing traffic disruptions for nearly an hour at many stations. Though services have resumed, trains are running at a slow pace. Trains between Kalyan and Kasara are running at reduced speed, the Central Railway said.

Train services were disrupted at Sion and between Bhandup and Nahur stations. “Rainwater was above the tracks, so trains were stopped for almost an hour. Now the water has receded a little, trains are restarting, but services are still disrupted,” ANI reported.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that moderate to heavy rains will continue to lash Mumbai throughout the day on Monday, July 8, 2024. Thunderstorms are also likely to occur.

Heavy rains continued to fall in Dindoshi, Mumbai on Monday morning, and floods were reported in many areas, according to the local meteorological department. Heavy rains are likely to hit Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada regions till July 10, the MeT department said.

Several netizens have criticised the dilapidated infrastructure in Mumbai, the financial capital, as many areas remain flooded. Houses have been submerged in several areas.

“50mm of rain in 1 hour + unusual lightning in South Mumbai. Waterlogging in low lying areas is imminent, luckily it happened after midnight,” wrote a user on X.
