Speed in the Race – Clowers and Burnham Names Ready to Impress

Welcome to our Speed In The Breed article. A look at the families that have managed to prove themselves in trials and training sessions.

If you look at the auction catalogue or those who made it big on the track at the major races, you will probably find that many of today’s champions come from great families of the past. Here we discuss this habit of success: how great families continue to leave the best.

Ashburton trials scheduled to take place on 9thth of July. Among those who attract attention for their royal bloodlines are…

Burnham Girl (The Gambler’s Pleasure) – Tinisha Franco) It’s always nice to be able to follow the young talents coming through the ranks. The 1st Mark Jones’ 2yo filly day sees the birth of two 2yo fillies, including Burnham Girl. Having seen the track training on several occasions, Burnham Girl appears to draw on plenty of family ability, her dam winning a double and has since given birth to a dam, leaving behind the brilliant Burnham Boy, a 1.49m pacer and winner of 19 races, including a 3rd place in the 2021 Gr1 Ainsworth Free-For-All running behind Mach Shard and Star Galleria.

Lou Will (Sweet Lou) – Rock And Roll) An interesting rider from the Chris McDowell stable, Lou Will will be looking to improve on his recent training form when he takes his turn in the 2nd heat of the day. Dam Rock N Roll has already left the nice pacer in Airpark Flyer (Dali) while grandmother Divine made a real impact as a dam, leaving five-time winner Easy Rider (Official Art) and recent star Aardiebytheseaside (At the seaside), the winner of the 2023 NZ Pacing Oaks.

Geraldine Clowers (Creatine – Gina) Out of a mare who knows how to leave a winner, Geraldine Clowers will be looking to follow in the footsteps of her well-known siblings including Clifden Clowers (13 wins), Time In A Bottle (9 wins) and Virginia Clowers, a 9-time winner and full sister who continues to impress on Australian soil, claiming another victory there on 22nd June, winning the Matriarch Classic Listed trot in the process.

This is a proven breed and Geraldine Clowers will certainly be one to watch in the coming times – the filly is trained by Matthew Williamson.
