IT engineer arrested for raping colleague on false promise of marriage in Bhubaneswar

The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested an IT engineer on charges of sexually assaulting his colleague during the false marriage vow in the capital Odisha. The suspect has been identified as Subhash Nayak.

Nayak had been on the run for the past six months. He surrendered on Friday after which he was arrested, sources said.

According to sources, Subhash worked with the victim at the same IT company. He lured her into a relationship with the false promise of marriage and developed a physical relationship with her. However, after sexually assaulting her repeatedly, he abandoned her when she started talking to him about marriage.

Left with no option, the victim approached Badagada police and filed a written complaint in connection with the incident in the month of June. However, the suspect has since been on the run. He had tried to get interim bail from the court.

After the court rejected his bail applications, Subhash finally surrendered today, it was learnt.

No comments could be obtained from senior officials of the Police Commissionerate in this regard.
