New Hampshire Teen Brady Procon Heroically Jumps onto Runaway Boat and Stops It on Lake Winnipesaukee

An act of faith.

A New Hampshire teenager heroically jumped from a jet ski onto a struggling boat to stop it from spinning out of control on a popular lake after its captain was knocked over during a sailing lesson.

Brady Procon, 17, jumped into action Wednesday when his father, Justin, told him an unmanned boat was circling in Smith’s Cove on Lake Winnipesaukee, according to WMUR-TV.

“I was sitting on the porch and my dad yelled that there was a boat out of control in the wake zone,” Procon told the outlet.

A sailing instructor was giving lessons to children from the boat when he leaned over to grab a tennis ball he was using to learn how to turn.

At that moment, one of the children’s boats tipped over onto the instructor’s boat.

The mast of the student’s sailboat struck the boat’s throttle, sending it flying into the water and the vessel spiraling out of control.

Procon and other residents quickly helped get the children out of harm’s way before the teenager jumped on his neighbor Justin King’s jet ski and made the leap.

A video shows King bringing the teenager close enough to the rebel ship before Procon jumps onto the vessel and cuts the throttle, ending the chaotic scene.

“I dove off my jet ski, jumped on his jet ski, and then he maneuvered his jet ski over to the boat so I could jump on,” Procon told Western Mass News.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

The brave teenager said he didn’t think about the danger when he jumped and was simply doing what he had to do to end the situation.

“If it had hit that dock, it would have ricocheted and probably hit somebody’s house, dock or people,” the teen said.

Procon, who has been hailed as a hero by locals for putting himself in danger, believes that “anyone would have done this if they had the chance”.

“They called me a hero and all that, but I wouldn’t say I’m a hero,” said the teenager, who is scheduled to be sent to Navy boot camp in the fall.

“To be in any branch of the military, you have to have courage, I guess. I wouldn’t even count what I did as courage, but kind of not thinking, just doing.”

Lake Winnipesaukee is approximately 50 miles from Portsmouth, NH.
