Bombay: Incessant rains crippled Mumbai on Monday, causing widespread flooding in many parts of the metropolis and its surrounding areas, severely affecting daily life and leading to cancellation of several trains and as many as 50 flights.

The city received over 300 mm of rain in six hours in the early hours of Monday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, predicting more rain during the day along with a high tide warning at sea.

Here are the major updates on the rains in Mumbai:

  • Besides Mumbai, orange alert has been issued for Thane, Palghar and the Konkan belt.
  • Cancelled flights: Due to heavy rain, more than 50 flights were cancelled. Several airlines used X (formerly Twitter) to warn passengers and advise them to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.
