Chelsea manager Maresca is ready to compete and fight for titles

New Chelsea FC head coach Enzo Maresca has said his side are ready to progress and compete for championships as he ushers in a new era for the London-based side.

In his first interview at Stamford Bridge, which Chelsea posted on YouTube on Monday, Maresca said he was excited and ready for the task.

“I am very happy and excited. It will be a fantastic journey,” said Maresca, emphasizing his eagerness to start working with the team.

The Italian coach, who joins Chelsea after a successful spell at Leicester City, stressed the importance of his first week at the club, familiarising himself with the environment and staff.

Maresca was particularly enthusiastic about working with Chelsea’s talented squad.

“One of the reasons I’m here is because I’m convinced the team is very good,” he said.

The new coach also stressed the importance of player development, saying: “If you can improve the players, that means you improve the team.”

Discussing his coaching philosophy, Maresca stressed the importance of a clear style of play.

While acknowledging his success at Leicester, he was quick to point out: “It’s already over now. New chapter, new team, new club.”

The Italian coach wants to continue the winning mentality at Chelsea, understanding the high expectations at the club.

“When you join a club like Chelsea, you have to know that it’s a club that has to win,” Maresca said.

He said he wanted to compete with the top clubs fighting for titles. Maresca also stressed the importance of creating a strong bond with Chelsea fans.

“We need to create as quickly as possible the right mentality, the right culture that fans can be proud of,” he explained.

The coach stressed that his goal was to implement an aggressive style with and without the ball to create a bond between the fans and the team. Maresca added that he was looking forward to working closely with the players.

“It’s always different when you spend a day with the person,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of building relationships beyond what can be observed in games.

In his message to Chelsea fans, Maresca called for patience and support.

“You just have to trust the process, trust the idea. Being behind the team, we will definitely enjoy our journey,” he said.
