The Daily: Did the Kraken make the riskiest choice? Is Danielson ready?

The Daily: Did the Kraken make the riskiest choice? Is Danielson ready?

TSN’s Travis Yost gives us a good read this morning with his take on the good, the bad and the ugly of free agent signings. The one that caught my attention was his “ugly” label for the Seattle Kraken’s seven-year, $6.3 million signing of Chandler Stevenson.

Yost respects Stevenson’s skills, including his speed and faceoff ability, but he believes that as the team moves into those years, the expectations for average pass value are higher. Will the Kraken get their money’s worth?

“When you sign players to major contracts, you want to be reasonably sure they’re the masters of the game,” Yost wrote. “When I look at a three-year sample of Stephenson playing with (or without) Stone, I see quite the opposite.”

The analysis of the new Kraken player is worth considering.

The Red Wings in case you missed them?

Bob Duff explores when center Nate Danielson will be ready to play for the Red Wings.

Former Red Wings prospect Andrew Gibson turned heads with his remarkable play at the Nashville Predators’ development camp. Detroit traded Gibson to the Preds on June 25.

General manager Steve Yzerman said it was just a coincidence that the Red Wings acquired several players from the University of Michigan.

Red Wings Offseason

Former Red Wings goalie and current Bally analyst Jimmy Howard was behind the bench during the Detroit Junior Red Wings’ championship at the Brick Tournament.
