A Gen X Woman’s Touching Message to Gen Z About What She Wished She Knew at 19

A Gen X Woman’s Touching Message to Gen Z About What She Wished She Knew at 19

If you had something to say to your younger self, what would it be? This 45-year-old mom has inspired the internet after sharing the words of wisdom she wishes she had known at 19.

Jennifer Latch of San Francisco, California, seems brimming with confidence, but that wasn’t always the case. In fact, she used to be plagued by anxiety and insecurity. But time and experience have taught her a lot about herself, and she says Newsweek that contrary to popular belief, “getting old is cool” — which helps him gain a lot of perspective.

This led her to begin documenting the tips she wished she had known as a teenager, in the hopes that they could help younger generations who find themselves in a similar situation today. The tips cover a variety of life lessons, from drinking water first thing in the morning, knowing your strengths rather than focusing on your perceived weaknesses, and being proactive about your wisdom teeth.

Latch said: “My advice would be to not worry about being fat, because you look good the way you are. Instead, focus on your mobility and strength. Mentally, don’t make big decisions when you’re tired and get a good night’s rest. Also, if you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed, go for a walk.

“I think the most important thing is to know that you are not alone and that it is important to give and accept help.”

She’s certainly happy with how her life has turned out and wouldn’t change it for the world, but Latch says if she had known some of these things when she was younger, life would have undoubtedly “been easier.”

Latch shared over 40 videos on Instagram at @jenlatch to highlight her important message about perspective, while connecting with others who wish they could go back in time and teach their younger selves a thing or two.

Her videos have proven to be a great source of humor, comfort, and inspiration for social media users of all ages, with each video racking up hundreds of thousands of views. One clip, posted on May 26, has even been viewed more than 2.9 million times and garnered more than 79,100 likes to date.

“I think our society has taught us that getting older is something to be feared, but I think it’s cool because it gives us so much. It’s amazing how much we can learn and improve and grow,” Latch continued.

“I started this 19 vs 45 series and it has allowed me to connect with millions of people around the world and hear their stories. It’s a true gift and I’m so honored to be able to create an online community.”

She’s been overwhelmed by the response to her videos, which have helped so many people be truly honest and vulnerable about their pasts. Many of the comments and direct messages she’s received have moved Latch to tears, which was completely unexpected when she started the series.

Social media users praised Latch for sharing her life lessons, prompting hundreds of comments on her viral Instagram post. One said: “I’m well past 45 but I love your posts and I’m sending them to my girls who aren’t yet!”

Another Instagram user replied: “This is really good…so many feelings!”

While another person commented: “I’m only 20, but the way I perceive this… THANK YOU.”
