Cooling stations, pool access and more available to Allentown residents during extreme heat | Lehigh Valley Regional News

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Resources are being made available to Allentown residents on July 8 and 9 while officials monitor weather conditions.

Swimming pools

Municipal pools will be open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays to residents and season pass holders only, capacity permitting, at no charge.

Address verification will be required.

  • Cedar Beach Pool, 101 N. Ott St.
  • Irving Pool, 731 N. Irving St.

Air-conditioned public buildings

The following buildings will be open both days for anyone requiring air conditioning. The need is particularly great for the elderly.

  • Allentown Public Library, 1210 Hamilton St., 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Cumberland Gardens Community, Room 501 E. Cumberland Street, 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. (subject to change)
  • Executive Education Charter School, 555 Union Blvd. (please use the Union Blvd entrance) 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Lehigh Valley Active Life, 1633 Elm St. 8:30am – 4:30pm (please enter through the doors facing the parking lot)
  • PPL Center Lobby, 701 Hamilton St., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (enter through sliding doors at WFMZ main gate)

Water jet parks

The city’s splash parks are open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Use of the splash parks is free.

  • Bucky Boyle Park, 10 Pump Place
  • Former Fairgrounds, 5th Street between Gordon and Liberty St.
  • Valania Park, 531 Union Street

Water curtains

Cooling stations operated by the Allentown Fire Department will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Roosevelt Park 271 Camp Street
  • Jordan Park 1001 N 6th St
  • Union Terrace Soccer Fields across from UT Elementary School

We remind you that city ordinance prohibits people from swimming or bathing in streams or waterways in city parks, which presents maintenance and safety issues.
