Don’t be fooled by the “shocked” media suddenly surprised by Biden’s illness

As Biden faces public pressure from House Democrats worried about a snap election, Democratic spokespeople in the newsroom are following suit, fearing that his declining health could help elect Donald Trump in November. That fear was evident late last week, when many left-leaning journalists demanded answers from White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

“Is anyone in the White House withholding information about the president’s health or his ability to do his day-to-day job?” asked NBC News’ Kelly O’Donnell.

“After the debate, was the president examined by a doctor or given a neurological scan?” asked CBS News’ Weijia Jang.

Other accusatory questions about Biden’s mental and physical health were posed by the Associated Press, the Daily Mail, ABC News, The Independent, USA Today and the Washington Post, according to a detailed report from the Media Research Center.

Don Irvine of Accuracy in Media told AFN that the public is being asked to believe that our press corps is shocked by Biden’s cognitive abilities, but he said the real story is that the media’s cover-up has been exposed.

“To see them change course and say, you know, how stunned they were by this, it’s just a joke,” he complains.

Another example of journalistic malfeasance is the revelation that the White House asked questions of two radio journalists before they interviewed Biden last week. Biden was seeking airtime from a majority-black audience in Wisconsin and Philadelphia, but the show’s host, Andrea Lawful Sanders, was fired by WURD for cooperating.

The media’s sudden ethical disapproval of the arrangement comes after President Biden was photographed in 2023 holding cheat cards with reporters’ names and questions (in the photo on the left) at a White House press conference in 2023. Biden was also spotted with a similar cheat sheet in April of last year, now 15 months ago.

A lingering question for many, Irvine said, is whether reporters and correspondents have suddenly discovered what real journalism looks like or whether the political knives are out for Biden.

“They know what journalism is,” he concludes. “They just haven’t been doing very good journalism for a while.”
