Ben Jacobs expects Tottenham to rival Chelsea for Jonathan David

Speaking to the London is Blue podcast, renowned journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that he expects Tottenham Hotspur to rival Chelsea for the signing of Canadian striker Jonathan David.

The talented 24-year-old forward is currently competing in the Copa America where his country finds itself in the semi-finals against defending champions Argentina. Beating the world champions will be no easy feat.

After playing for LOSC Lille for almost four seasons, David looks set for the next step in his career. He has outgrown the French club in every sense of the word and is set to play for Europe’s elite.

Chelsea and Tottenham in the Premier League are ready to offer David a platform to advance his career. Even though neither club can offer a Champions League at the moment, we are building an impressive project in this direction. The less said about the Blues project, the better!

A speedy forward who likes to run behind the opposition’s defence, it’s his killer instinct that makes him a special talent. He’s not afraid to get into attacking positions and has a natural killer instinct for finding the back of the net.

Speaking about the situation around David and the London clubs, here’s what Jacobs had to say

“As far as forwards go, the most experienced and recognised name at the moment is Jonathan David, who is available at a bargain price.”

“I would also keep an eye on Spurs and I’m told Lille would accept much less than £30m, around €30m instead of £25m, so Chelsea could be ones to watch there.”

Ben Jacobs reveals Fabio Paratici wanted Jonathan David to replace Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur.

Canadian manager John Herdman was full of praise for the 24-year-old ahead of the last World Cup. Here’s what he had to say: “Jonathan is one of those silent assassins. He’s very tactically aware and that’s what I really appreciate about Jonathan, he really wants to get into the details of the game and understand the pressing tactics.”

It’s no secret that Spurs have yet to replace Harry Kane. Ange Postecoglou was smart not to bring in a No.9 last season because there was no striker who could replace the England captain. However, a season has passed and the injuries will no longer be as acute.

Spurs will sign a striker for the next seven or eight years in Jonathan David if he can continue his fine form in Ligue 1 in the Premier League. At the price they are being offered, Tottenham have no hesitation in committing. Hopefully we can make that happen.
