Former PM Bhutto hanged after unfair trial: SC

Issuing a detailed opinion on the hanging of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhuuto, the Supreme Court said an innocent person was hanged without a transparent trial.

Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, in a 48-page opinion, wrote that former military dictator Zia-ul-Haq had directly benefited from the decision to hang Zulfikar Bhutto.

The text states that when the trial against Bhutto was launched, martial law prevailed in the country and the courts had no constitutional status.

The document also stated that the courts of the judge who had sworn loyalty to the dictator did not remain the courts of the people.
