Former Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has been approached about a return to football less than 24 hours after announcing his retirement.

The 33-year-old, who left Liverpool at the end of last season, called time on his trophy-laden playing career by issuing an official statement on Monday evening.

On Sunday, Fabrizio Romano announced that Thiago was about to end his career.

In a statement on Instagram, Thiago wrote: “I will always be willing to give back what I have been given and I am grateful for the time I have spent, I have enjoyed it.

“Thank you to football and everyone who has been with me and made me a better player and a better person along the way.

Thiago started his senior career with Barcelona after joining the club as a youth player and also played for Bayern Munich before signing for Liverpool. Additionally, he played 46 times for Spain between 2011 and 2021.

The report states that Thiago, who is eager to start his coaching career, would be inclined to accept the offer.

During his time at Barcelona, ​​Thiago won the Champions League, four La Liga titles and the Copa del Rey.

Between 2009 and 2013 he made 100 appearances for the club and scored ten goals.

Given his history at the club and his knowledge of the game, Thiago could well prove to be a useful asset for Barcelona if he accepts the coaching offer.

Thiago won the Champions League with Bayern Munich and also won seven German league titles and four German Cups. At Liverpool, Thiago won the FA Cup in 2022.
