A deputy with the Hillsborough County (Florida) A sheriff’s office officer was seriously injured after being run over by a suspect he was trying to arrest.

According to HCSO, early Friday morning at 12:05 a.m., the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black BMW.

As seen on the body camera video, once the deputy exited his car, the suspect drove off, avoiding the traffic stop. The deputy can then be heard saying that “the vehicle is fleeing at a high rate of speed heading east…”

Twenty minutes later, at 12:25 a.m., the deputy, identified as Kalin Hall, 33, attempted a second traffic stop and the suspect hit Hall as he approached the BMW.

“He ran me over,” Hall can be heard saying in the video. “I need an ambulance. My leg is broken,” Fox 13 reports.

Hall has since undergone surgery to insert a rod into his leg after being struck by the driver. He also suffered a fracture in his other ankle, but HCSO said in a Facebook post that he remains in “good spirits.”

He was released from the hospital on Saturday, July 6.

“Deputy Hall’s expected full recovery brings us all immense relief,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “His dedication to Hillsborough County is immeasurable, from his outstanding contributions to the HCSO K9 Unit to his vigilant efforts in DUI operations. He epitomizes our commitment to keeping our community safe.”

Hillsborough County investigators are working to develop charges against the driver who allegedly struck Deputy Hall.
