Shakur Stevenson Names Man He Wants as Next Partner: ‘Get Ready’

Three-weight world champion Shakur Stevenson wants to return to the ring as soon as possible.

Stevenson was absent last weekend when he successfully defended his WBC lightweight title in a comfortable, if slightly disappointing, performance against Artem Harutyunyan. Stevenson took the victory by unanimous decision with scores of 119-109, 118-110 and 116-112.

While there’s no denying the 27-year-old’s talent and skills, much has been made of his unentertaining style, which drew boos from the crowd at the final bell.

Stevenson blames his opponents, saying they are only here to survive and are not willing to engage with the American.

However, he believes there is another 135-pound fighter who would bring out the best in him. When asked by Fight Hub TV who he would like to fight if it were up to him, he made it clear that Gervonta Davis would be at the top of his list.

“Me and ‘Tank’ Davis, I want to fight the guys that are coming to your house, to try to fight me, to try to win. They have things to lose, like me, they’re not coming here just to be part of the show.

I’m ready to get back in the ring as soon as possible because I didn’t take any punishment, I’m ready to get back in there as soon as possible.

Stevenson had a very clear message for his lightweight rival.

“Be ready.”

He may have to wait a little longer before he gets his chance with Top Rank promoter Bob Arum revealing that talks are underway for Vasiliy Lomachenko to face Davis next.
