One dead and three injured after a three-car crash on Garners Ferry Road in Columbia

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – One person is dead and two injured after a multi-car crash in Columbia Thursday morning.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) said the crash occurred on Garners Ferry Road, approximately four miles south of the city of Columbia.

A 1994 Chevy S10 pickup was traveling east on Garners Ferry Road when it slowed to make a U-turn, troopers said. A 2001 Ford Taurus also traveling east struck the truck in the rear, pushing it into the westbound lane.

After being pushed into the westbound lane, the car was struck by a 2021 Chevy Silverado traveling westbound.

The driver of the Chevy pickup was the only person in the car and died at the scene, SCHP said. The driver of the Ford Taurus was taken to Prisma Health Richland for his injuries. There were two people in the Chevy Silverado, who were also taken to Prisma Health Richland for their injuries.

SCHP continues to investigate the incident.
