LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – More warm afternoons are in the cards this weekend, and neither are foggy mornings.

Widespread fog (grey areas) is expected on Saturday morning with locally very low visibility.

Above normal temperatures will continue, with highs in the mid and upper 80s each day. We will have plenty of sunshine both days which is good news for outdoor plans and festivities. If you have to be somewhere early in the morning, we’re probably still dealing with fog. Dense fog looks likely again around sunrise Saturday morning, so stay careful on the roads if you have to be anywhere.

Without rain, we should remain cautious with outdoor activities and refrain from burning as long as dry weather advisories and burning bans remain in effect. Some fire danger will likely persist for some time as much of the SWLA remains at the U.S. Drought Monitor Level 2/4 (severe) drought level. Drought levels have increased with the latest update from the US Drought Monitor. A worsening of the moderate drought we are in is certainly possible before better rain returns. Burn bans include Calcasieu, Jeff Davis, Allen, Beauregard and Vernon parishes.

Changes to this dry pattern may finally come later next week. The strong southerly winds will probably return and increase the humidity a bit. Then a stronger front could move closer by Wednesday, and that combination could be enough to provide a better chance for at least some scattered showers late in the week. This could also be Halloween, so keep a close eye on the weather forecast as the chance of rain can increase or decrease during that time.
