Suspected drug trafficker arrested during TSA check at San Francisco airport

A passenger bound for Australia was arrested at San Francisco International Airport after his luggage was flagged at a TSA checkpoint.

MILLBRAE, CA — A Los Angeles man was arrested at San Francisco International Airport after he was caught trying to smuggle a large quantity of methamphetamine through security, according to San Mateo County authorities.

The sheriff’s office alleges that Jauan Manuel Paz-Guzman, 23, was carrying two suitcases filled with six kilograms of methamphetamine when his luggage was flagged during a routine TSA check on June 27. Investigators say Paz-Guzman was on his way to board a flight to Australia, where he intended to smuggle the drugs.

TSA agents reported the discovery and San Mateo County Drug Enforcement agents went to the airport to take over the investigation. Paz-Guzman was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of transportation of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and burglary.

The sheriff’s office shared three photos Wednesday that investigators said showed the drugs recovered from the two suitcases.
